چکیده

Nutrient deficiencies in humans are problematic on a global scale but more prevalent regions where high-quality and nutrient-dense foods scarce. Developing nutrient-rich crops that thrive these of the world would help alleviate disparity. We leveraged wild barley (Hordeum vulgare spp. spontaneum) Diversity Collection (WBDC) (N = 232) to characterize variation seed macronutrient (P, K, Ca, Mg) micronutrient (B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn) contents found this subspecies reveal chromosomal associated with traits. Most micro- macronutrients displayed WBDC and, except for boron phosphorous, had modest level heritability (>0.5). Variation due environment was significant (p < 0.001) each element, iron, genotype all tested nutrients, boron. Thirty-seven marker–trait associations (MTAs) were detected three (K, four macro- (Cu, five micronutrients. Several compelling candidate genes harbored within MTAs also identified, including ABC transporters, NAC transcription factors, bZIP factors.

Identification of genomic loci controlling phenologic and morphologic traits in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) genotypes using association analysis

Association mapping is a technique with high resolution for QTL mapping based on linkage disequilibrium and has shown more promising for describing genetically complex traits. In addition, it is a powerful tool for describing complex agronomic traits and identifying alleles that can contribute to enhance the desired traits. In this study, whole genome association mapping was used in a set of 14...

Quantitative Trait Loci and Maternal Effects Affecting the Strong Grain Dormancy of Wild Barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum)

Wild barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum) has strong grain dormancy, a trait that may enhance its survival in non-cultivated environments; by contrast, cultivated barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. vulgare) has weaker dormancy, allowing uniform germination in cultivation. Malting barley cultivars have been bred for especially weak dormancy to optimize their use in malt production. Here, we analyz...

Geography of Genetic Structure in Barley Wild Relative Hordeum vulgare subsp. spontaneum in Jordan

Informed collecting, conservation, monitoring and utilization of genetic diversity requires knowledge of the distribution and structure of the variation occurring in a species. Hordeum vulgare subsp. spontaneum (K. Koch) Thell., a primary wild relative of barley, is an important source of genetic diversity for barley improvement and co-occurs with the domesticate within the center of origin. We...

The influence of linkage and inbreeding on patterns of nucleotide sequence diversity at duplicate alcohol dehydrogenase loci in wild barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum).

Patterns of nucleotide sequence diversity are analyzed for three duplicate alcohol dehydrogenase loci (adh1-adh3) within a species-wide sample of 25 accessions of wild barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum). The adh1 and adh2 loci are tightly linked (recombination fraction <0.01) while the adh3 locus is inherited independently. Wild barley is predominantly self-fertilizing (approximately 98%)...
